We recently had the pleasure of hosting six teachers and their interpreter from one of our partner schools in China. They spent four days at Darfield High School on a professional development programme. It included observing classes, learning about particular aspects of the education system in New Zealand, interacting with some of our students, and a local host family. All of the group really enjoyed themselves, and asked lots of questions.
Cultural Ambassadors Host Lunch
Our cultural ambassadors hosted the teachers for lunch and had the chance to learn more about Wenjiang No.2 Middle School. Their school has about 4,500 students who study in classes from 7:30am until sometimes 8:30pm, even on Saturdays! It’s located in the Sichuan province, home of the famous panda research centre. The cultural ambassadors also learned a few Mandarin phrases, and enjoyed some Chinese food.
At the end of the visit Darfield High School formally signed an MOU agreement with Wenjiang No.2 Middle School. Along with this visit it is an important step towards strengthening the relationship between our two schools. Future plans include students and staff visits, using technology to facilitate interaction between students, as well as long term students studying at Darfield High School.
A big thank you to all of our staff and students who helped us host these teachers, as well as the Blackburn family for welcoming them to their house.
